Did he freeze?
Mar. 11th, 2018 11:39 amI finally saw Black Panther yesterday. My department's social committee organized it - so I had to wait, if I wanted to see it for free.
I loved it. It wasn't perfect, but it was definitely one of the better Marvel movies I've seen. I'm going to have no patience for all of the alt-right fucks trying to tear it down.
I was a little distracted by how directly Wakanda borrowed from various African cultures. On one hand, I think it was the right decision. If they hadn't borrowed, they'd have relied on tropes - and that's really not what this movie is about. I also had fun trying to identify the influences. But on the other hand, it did break the suspension of disbelief for me a little bit.
Also, Shuri is such a style icon. I've seen a lot of posts that break down the influences behind the more "traditional" costumes, but the first time we see Shuri - she's perfect. Her costume immediately tells us a lot about her and about Wakanda.
My biggest complaint about the movie is that it really should have been a trilogy. There was too much story for a single movie. The big moments came too fast for them to have as much impact as they could have - and this was especially true for Killmonger's development.
But I'm going to sit in the corner and squee a for a little bit. It's been a while since I've been this excited about a movie.
