I'm starting the year off right, by procrastinating on work I really need to do!

Your main fandom of the year? I think that this was the year I discovered Critical Role. It hits all the right spots for me. It has good cheese, friends having fun - and importantly, it's the kind of show I can put on while I work on something else.

The one downside (for me) is that it's a fandom that is much more heavy on fanart than fanfic. There's not a lot to read in the bath.

I'd say I've also really gotten into The Witcher, but there isn't really enough fandom content for it to be a "main" fandom.

Your favorite movie seen this year? Hahahahahahaaha

The Baahubali duology. It is the cheesiest goddamn fun.

It's also interesting, at least for me. It's a standard fantasy involving betrayal, death, and a stolen throne, but it also breaks some of the tropes that are so common in standard fantasy.

The biggest one is that revenge - even violent revenge - isn't positioned as an evil. Characters who are fixated on revenge aren't tragic villains, there's no handwringing about becoming a monster, and there's no final moment where the hero sees how far he's about to go and decides to be merciful.

It gives the story a kind of mythic feel that goes really well with the 300-esque approach to story and special effects.

Your favorite book read this year? Fuck. What's a book?

Your favorite album or song to listen to this year? Fuck. Who has time to listen to new music?

Your favorite TV show of the year? This is the year I kept trying and failing to watch new TV.

Your favorite video game of the year? I guess it would have to be Destiny 2, based on hours of play. I still play it regularly with my friends.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the only other game that I really played and finished this year. It's really good, but also, everything that people say about the sexism is true.

Your best new fandom discovery of the year? I don't know about this one. If one thing has characterized this year in fandom for me... it's been pulling back because of a lack of time and energy. I'm in the last year of my grad program and just so busy.

Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year? I haven't had much room to be disappointed, either. I would say that after letting The Witcher Netflix sit a while, I'm really disappointed that they fucked it up by trying to make it like Game of Thrones. It's still watchable, but I don't think that it will be very successful. So there will be no big boom in Witcher content, etc.

Your fandom boyfriend of the year? I have to interpret this as "favorite male character", since I don't have fandom boyfriends or girlfriends. I would say either Geralt (The Witcher) or Caleb Widogast (Critical Role).

Your fandom girlfriend of the year? Maybe Yennefer (The Witcher) or Jester (Critical Role).

Your biggest squee moment of the year? Hmmmmm...

Maybe the goldfish moment... Critical Role fans know...

The most missed of your old fandoms? I think I miss caring about the characters in the Marvel cinematic universe. It's such a huge, rich fandom that no longer caring about it really ... just makes my fandom world a lot smaller. Maybe I will go back to it later, but I just kind of got bored with where the films were going and I feel like I've already read most of the good stuff that ignores the later films.

The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to? I want to actually work on some of my original fic, really.

Your biggest fan anticipations for the coming year? NO EXPECTATIONS.
