Little Details is open open open

I held off on posting about this AGAIN, because if you're interested you're probably already subscribed and have seen the posts, but: Little Details is open!

I'm really hoping we can build enough of a critical mass to keep the community going. It's going to be tough because Dreamwidth is a smaller platform, but my fingers are crossed. If you're so inclined, I'd appreciate you passing its existence along to your reading list.

The idea is to post to dw_community_promo soon. I was hoping to get a couple more questions before then to show off the community, but I might have that backwards.

Also, man, I ran straight into an illustration of why I dislike large algorithmic platforms while trying to promote it.

I made two very similar posts: One to Twitter, one to Mastodon.

I have a very small following on both. On Twitter, I've noticed that since the introduction of Twitter Blue, my tweets get very few views - much fewer than before, even though my follower count hasn't changed. People who used to respond to my tweets, who are still active on Twitter, no longer do. I suspect that since I'm a very small account, my tweets don't show up on people's "For you" page, which Twitter aggressively tries to make you view by default. My post about Little Details got no engagement at all.

On Mastodon, I've gotten more than 200+ boosts and 100+ favorites. A few people saw the post, and because they liked the idea, they boosted it, and it snowballed from there.

I have no idea how much of that will translate into activity, but it's promising that the idea seems so popular still.

Is the link in your first tweet? Twitter tanks your visibility if you include any links in the first tweet now, and that includes tags and mentions.

It is, but my visibility has been tanked on all my tweets, and there's not much difference between this tweet and recent ones without links either.

I might try again later without the link though.

Twitter is just… awful. I only got on it because of necessity and don’t use it much. I’m also sure that my posts, the few that I make there, don’t get shown to my followers a lot of the time, too.

I’ve made a post on my journal for the flist, and I’ve also posted to my tumblr. I’m not a big account there by any means and the tags for this kind of topic are quite broad, but it got a few reblogs there, so there’s hope. :D
